Just a short update on the house today. I decided that I needed to get some of my guitars off of the ground or buy stands. I decided that I had a neat place on the wall for hangars, so I put together a little guitar board. Read more…

One of my irritations with this house from the get go was this toilet in guest bathroom. Not only did it look like a first generation toilet, it leaked like one too. This means that every few hours you will hear the tank refill for a couple seconds and shut off again. Read more…

I found out through the summer that even in the basement, it can get terribly uncomfortable in the basement. The reason for this heat problem is the output of heat from the projector. Little did I realize that it would put out so much heat that it can compromise an entire room of 75 degree goodness to a balmy 85 in just a few hours. Read more…

I know it might sound odd but the standard size of an exhaust vent for a dryer is 4 inches (across). In these old houses they had a standard 3 inch hole. You have a choice to buy an adapter or make the hole larger so that you can connect it correctly to your dryer. I chose to fix the issue correctly and make the hole 4 inches across. Read more…

One of the things that I didn’t notice when I bought the house was that I two garage doors with only one garage door opener installed. Now I don’t claim to know a lot about garage building history in houses for the 50’s but I think my garage obviously did not plan for large vehicles and how to have enough space to walk around the vehicle once it is parked. This has been a very obvious problem from the get-go and I don’t even have a ‘large’ vehicle. Read more…

If you remember from my first post about remodeling the basement, I had mentioned these hideously inefficient lights that were installed into the basement and three bedrooms. It is time to replace this light as it a) provides the room with little light and b) looks very 50s…. Read more…

This was far and away the largest project I had ever taken on. It was not easy and sometimes I had to force myself to go downstairs and work on the mud portion but it is well worth it. The carpet was installed on the 26th, just in time for the K-State bowl game (Texas Bowl) which was on Dec. 27th, 2006. Read more…

The painting is finished. I am now going over the floor to make sure there are no ‘dents’ or holes left in the concrete from the anchors that previously held an old wall in place. Once these holes are filled in then I will be ready for the carpet, which gets installed tomorrow! Here are some pics of the final paint job. Read more…

When I found out that I was going to move and buy a place in KC, naturally I started telling all of my friends. Well when I talked to one friend in particular, he said he was planning on moving to KC and was looking for a place to live. I said OK and went on. He moved in sometime in early June and stuck around until I had another friend move to KC. Guess what? He needed a place to live while he got his house sold in Omaha and found a new place to live here. Read more…

Time to paint! What colors do you think I chose? Nothing but Purple and White for a HUGE Kansas State fan, like myself. A lot of people sneered at the thought of having purple walls, but I think it turned out alright. It isn’t nearly as dreadful/depressing as you would think and it works out great for watching movies downstairs. Read more…
